SD Association Celebrates 10 Years of Innovation
SD Memory Card MarketIn 10 years, SD memory card storage capacity has increased 8,000-fold, from 8 megabytes in 2000 scaling to 2 terabytes with the current SD specification, SDXC. SD is now the world-leading de facto interface for removable media with an estimated 2.5 billion SD memory cards shipped and nearly 80 percent market share. SD technology achieved world-leading status by responding to market requirements for a staggering variety of consumer electronic devices while maintaining backwards compatibility. Market requirements prompted the first SD memory card, the miniSD form factor and the even smaller microSD memory cards.
